Wid West Trekkin'
Some of our horses...
FLASH
-arab x
Age 8 , 15.1hh
Bay gelding with star and sock
Flashie came from our previous bank manager who used him for hunting, he is a more experienced ride, a great walker, a great gallop with lovely paces in between, you do have to get on quick he's just a little bit sneaky.
Only used as a lead horse or for experienced riders.
BERT
-east coast pony
Age 20, 14hh
Silver bay roan
Bertus has always been a kids pony, he’s been trekked and hunted, lovely and quiet with a slight stubborn streak, especially when it comes to wanting to be with his much younger girlfriend Dixie, great for kids, very soft paced.
BART
-east coast pony
Age 5, 14.1hh
Chestnut with small star
Bartie came from Opotiki, he is our wee baby, so full of personality he is hard to ignore, every time you turn around he is right there, he much prefers human company, he can be hard to shake off when leaving the paddock, wise beyond years and already a strong favourite with the kids.
MINAKE
-east coast pony
Age 7, 13.3
Grillo with small white star
Another Opotiki pony, we like to call him Rangi (after the famous cartoon Footrot Flats) as with his long flaxen mane and cool dude attitude we like to think he has it with the ladies, can be seen often picking a fight with Tiger in the paddock just to add amusement to his day, he has a super quick start in the gallop and is a strong contender for the pony sprints, yet to walk you would think you had a plodder on your hands.
MINNIE
-Morgan x
Age 7, 14.3hh
Dark bay
Minnie came from one of our lovely girls Shana who worked here for a bit during school holidays, she was a twin and is one of the only ones that can nearly keep pace with Minake on the beach, very sweet natured and strides out well, she is here doing what she loves best and it shows, you will have to get in fast to get this one, the girls love using her as a lead horse.
TRAMPY
-connemara x
Age 11, 14.3
Dapple grey with 4 white socks
Trampy belong to a friend of ours and we are so lucky to have him, he is a favourite for regulars and for those moving on from learner status as we can rely on his kind nature to look after our customers at all time, he has the smoothest canter and has been known to turn up to Show jumping events when we have a lame pony to replace.
CHESTER
-TB
Age 23, 16.2
Chestnut with large blaze and one sock
Never raced, was considered not fast or straight so he was used as a stock horse and spent time as a stock hand in the rodeo, at Pony club and then was evented and even Show Jumped, has retired to the farm to take it a bit easy, Combine Mr reliable with Mr Independence and you will have Chester
MANDY
-Leopard spot Appy x clydey
Age 19, 15.1
Red Roan with awesome spots
We found Mandy locally, she was giving rides to the grandkids, her owner decided to sell her, and luck us!, she can look as thunderous as hell but she is the sweetest mare and looks after her rider no end.
MONKEY
-Standardbred
Age 5, 15.2
Red Bay with large white blaze
Very new to the crew only being ridden by staff at this point, never raced and really striking marking for this breed, more than happy to go with her friends.
BLACKIE
- Standard bred
Age 9, 15.1
Black
Blackie was also one of our first buys from our farrier she had been named by their son (age6) night mare as you can imagine we were pretty quick to change that to Blackie, I don’t normally change names but needs must in this instance, apparently is was because she was black and a mare She takes our nervous or young ones and has given so many of our previous riders their first canter along the beach.
BLACK ROSIE
-TB
Age 14, 15hh
Black
Previously a polo pony she is a nice ride able to walk on the buckle and go hot stink down the beach, a good fun mare with a sweet quiet sort of personality, she also came from a previous staff member, thank you Jasmine
TIGER
-Standardbred
Age 10, 17.1hh (HUGE)
Dark bay with little white star
Our biggest Horse we call him the tank, how can something so big and solid be so gentle and sweet, loves to carve his own trail, Men love this boy he looks like a Trojan horse and makes Horse Trekking suitably manly!
DIXIE
-east coast pony
Age 6, 14.3
Dapple bay with Big blaze and 2 white socks
Our little cutie, Bart's girlfriend Dixie rides bitless as she prefers this option and can be bossy with the other horses , especially for one so young, but oh so cute! Good little horse for the young ones.
GEORGIE
-Gisborne bred
Age 22, 17hh
Chestnut with a diamond shaped star
There is not anyone who has ridden Georgio and not gotten off and given him a huge kiss, he is a big gentle giant that is always second on the ride, comes from his days with the Pakuranga hunt, he was a full wire hunter for the head huntsman, and now he takes our nervous or disabled riders to the beach and back. He was gifted to us and he has indeed been a gift!
MONTY
Bay 2 white sox
Standardbred gelding 9yrs
1 white star, snuggliest cutest horse , took to trekking like a duck to water, easiest horse to break in ever, he is already taking new riders out, suitable for confident learners right through to experienced.
GEORGIA
1 white sock
White star shaped like ‘S’ sweet stationbred 16hh mare 11yrs
Slightly timid nature, natural leader, great for the bigger more experienced rider. Big bouncy canter!
JACK
4 white sox
White star, new to the crew as of the summer age 4
Very sweet natured, very kind ride, is shaping up to be a great pony for the kids, if we could just stop him from jumping out of the paddock. Jumping anyone?
